“Witchy History”

In this post I scrape the surfice of history with Witchcraft, Witches for anyone who isnt really sure about what it really is and to help inform anyone that is curious. There is so much amazing history on Witchcraft and Witches that I researched questions I beileve anyone new to the Craft might be asking themself and would like to know.

Follow me Witchlings, right this way on our journey into the BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Witches and Witchcraft in its earliest form:

Magick has been around since the begining of time. From when this beautiful world was created up to Cave Man times and even to this day and will be around long after us. One of my questions is Where did Witchcraft originate from?  This is what I found…

It is uncertain when Witches came to be. One of the earliest records of a specific Witch is in the Bible in the book of Samuel. The entry is thought to be written between 931 B.C. and 721 B.C. when this Witch of Endor was sought out by a King, King Saul. The Witch was requested by King Saul to summon the dead prophet Samuels spirit and help the King to bring down the Philistine Army.

WOW! Talk about an intense entry!

To continue… The word “Witch” is of uncertain origin. One popular belief is that the word Witch is related to the English words wit, wise, and wisdom. Another is from the Old English Wiccecraeft, a compound of “Wicce” (“witch”) and “Craeft” (“Craft”).

What were our Witchy Ancestors known for?

From the early ages of time people that practiced magick were and still are known as other titles than Witch. For example…

  • Shamans
  • Medicine People
  • Sorcerers
  • Witch Doctors
  • Wizards

To name a few. These people were called on when times were far from good. Chaos that accompanied terriable weather, Illnesses, and Shortage on Food. These Magickal Practioners cast spells and performed rituals to harness the Power of Deieties to change these Natural Disastors for the better in order to survive!

Now after discussing where Witches originated from and the earliest entry of a Witch, the origin of the word Witch and what Witches were known for lets find out what cultures still believe and still practice Witchcraft today.
